Our main character Mathilda is struggling and I was rooting through her throughout. A beautiful book about life, death, grief and self discovery. Oh and it was also absolutely hilarious in parts! Loved it. Recommend wholeheartedly! Synopsis: There is something wrong with Mathilda. She's still reeling from the blow of a gut-punch break up and grieving the death of a loved one. But that's not it. She's cried all her tears, mastered her crow pose and thrown out every last reminder of him. But that's not helping. Concerned that she isn't moving on, Mathilda's friends push her towards a series of increasingly unorthodox remedies. In other books I’ve read this can be a super annoying trope but I found Violet really likeable. Maybe because almost every other character was so horrible! Synopsis: Stuck in a dead-end job, broken-hearted, broke and estranged from her best friend: Violet's life is nothing like she thought it would be. She wants more - better friends, better sex, a better job - and she wants it now. So, when Lottie - who looks like the woman Violet wants to be when she grows up - offers Violet the chance to join her exciting start-up, she bites. We watch her begin a relationship with Eric, a white man double her age who is in an ‘open marriage’ with his wife Rebecca, who has given them a list of rules. The writing in this book is incredible, dark at times but hilarious at others. Reminded me of Michaela Coel’s ‘Chewing Gum’ and ‘I May Destroy You’, challenging the stereotype of the strong black woman. I really loved this book! Synopsis: Luster follows Edie, a Black woman in her twenties who lives in New York City and works as an editorial assistant. She meets Eric, a white man in his forties who is in an open marriage. Eric and his wife have a 12-year-old adoptive daughter, Akila, who is also Black. Synopsis: our protagonist embarks on an affair with a married man while she cheats on her boyfriend. Meanwhile, said married man is also having an affair with an instagram influencer.
